According to the announcement, during his visit to Russia, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with President Vladimir Putin to discuss the prospects for the development of the traditionally friendly bilateral relationship as well as key issues on international and regional agendas.

Major foreign media outlets have predicted that deepening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries will also be one of the core topics.

This visit marks Prime Minister Modi's first trip to Russia since Russia invaded Ukraine and started the war in February 2022.

The leaders of India and Russia have held annual meetings since 2000, with President Putin's visit to New Delhi, the capital of India, in 2021 being their last face-to-face summit.

A meeting between the two leaders scheduled for 2022 in Moscow was canceled due to the Ukraine war.

Since then, President Putin has strengthened relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, whose relationship with India has deteriorated over border clashes.
