Chinese Premier: "AI is Humanity's Common Asset... New Technology Benefits Should Be Shared"

Chinese Premier Li Chang emphasized that more countries should benefit from new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, and that achieving joint development through this is important.

At the World AI Conference held in Shanghai on the 4th, Premier Li stated, "As AI development accelerates, many developing countries are falling behind," adding, "We need to narrow the technological gap." He emphasized, "Through international cooperation, we must create a fair and open environment for AI development," and "More countries should be able to enjoy the benefits of new technology development."

He also pointed out, "Still, 2.5 billion people worldwide do not have internet access," and stressed, "AI is a common heritage of humanity, and the Chinese people believe that true progress is achieved only when everyone develops together."

He continued, "The risks brought by AI are a common challenge for us all," warning, "No country can avoid this." Premier Li added, "Considering the rapid advancement of new technologies, each country must ensure that technology remains safe, trustworthy, and controllable," and "China has been an important force in the global development of AI and has provided practical experience."

Premier Li's remarks came just days after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a China-sponsored resolution urging wealthy developed countries to reduce the gap with poor developing countries in using and benefiting from AI, and to guarantee equal opportunities.

This resolution was adopted on March 21, led by the United States and jointly sponsored by 123 countries including China, marking the first UN resolution related to AI. The March resolution provides global support for international efforts to ensure that all countries can utilize AI under guarantees that "AI is safe and trustworthy." Regarding this resolution, Premier Li explained, "It reflects China's responsible attitude toward AI development and governance."
