[Mania] "Write a Seoul weather article"... Gemini follows 5W1H in 3 seconds with photo included

“Write a news article about the weather in Seoul on July 2nd. Deliver objective facts according to the five Ws and one H, and include related photos or videos.”

When requested to write an article by the AI chatbot Gemini Advanced in Google Workspace, a weather article reflecting the full onset of the monsoon season appeared on the screen. The headline was quite fitting: “Seoul Experiences Road Flooding and Traffic Congestion Due to Heavy Rain on July 2.” Along with the title, a photo of taxis and other vehicles navigating through the rain-soaked streets was also included. The opening sentence resembled an actual news article format: “On the afternoon of July 2, 2024, Seoul experienced intense rainfall of up to 60mm per hour, causing flooding on various roads and resulting in traffic congestion.”

The article was completed in less than three seconds. Gemini Advanced is equipped with Google’s multimodal AI model Gemini 1.5 Pro, which processes images, videos, audio, and other data simultaneously. Compared to previous models, its analytical capabilities have been significantly enhanced. While earlier versions analyzed about 400 to 500 pages, this model can comprehend up to 1,500 pages within just a few seconds and is ready to execute user commands.

Gemini also efficiently generated the article’s framework based on the five Ws and one H. It provided explanations for when, where, who, what, how, and why. Additionally, it included updates reflecting the current weather situation and measures taken by the Seoul city government: “Major roads and subway station areas were flooded, causing inconvenience to citizens. The Seoul Metropolitan Government is conducting drainage operations in the flooded areas.”

However, limitations appeared in detailed aspects. The article included unverified information such as subway operations being delayed or suspended on certain sections. The issue of hallucination?where AI models provide inaccurate responses?remains unresolved.

To address this, Gemini Advanced supports a “double-check function.” When content referenced from Google Search is used in article writing, the source is highlighted with a green shade along with the evidence. If the source is difficult to disclose, a pink shade is applied instead. Simultaneously, a message appears stating, “No related content was found in Google Search. Additional research should be considered to verify the credibility of the content.”

Specifically, inaccurate AI responses also occurred when prompts were not clearly specified. A prompt refers to natural language text requesting the AI to perform a specific task. When given a vague command like “Write a news article about today’s weather,” the AI responded, “Today’s weather in Seoul is bright and hot. The highest temperature is 32 degrees Celsius, the lowest is 22 degrees Celsius, and there is a chance of rain in the afternoon.”

In addition to text content, the AI reporter provided users with videos searchable on YouTube. It also offered safety guidelines such as “Actions to Take During Heavy Rain.”

Gemini Advanced supports not only news articles but also various types of document creation. It can produce reports reflecting market size, growth rates, and trends, as well as academic papers structured with introduction, body, and conclusion. Furthermore, it can draft collaborative proposal emails and FAQs containing customer questions and answers related to products or services.
