Oh Se-hoon: "Uniform License Surrender for Elderly is Controversial... Strengthening Aptitude Tests is Scientific"

Instruction to Review Appropriate Measures for Elderly Drivers Following Backward Driving Accident at Sicheong Station
Regarding the People Power Party Convention, "Disappointed by the Vision Presentation Report"
On the Gwanghwamun Taegeukgi Flagpole Controversy, "Detailed Explanation to Be Provided Next Week"

On June 4, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon expressed concerns regarding countermeasures for the reverse driving accident at City Hall Station, stating, "Discussing license surrender or conditional licenses based on age groups may not align well with reality." He added, "Applying technology that measures reflexes through science and technology and strengthening aptitude tests might be the most objective and scientific response."

Mayor Oh appeared on Channel A that morning and said, "As people age, their reflexes inevitably slow down. Even at age 70, some individuals have a physical age of 40 to 50, and some in their 60s may have a physical age of 80 to 90, so uniformly improving the system by age group is open to controversy."

In particular, Mayor Oh revealed, "There could be technology in aptitude tests that measures how quickly one reacts to suddenly appearing situations while driving in a simulation," and added, "I requested a review at the executive meeting on how drivers can assess their own driving abilities and take corresponding measures."

He also showed interest in overseas operational cases. Mayor Oh explained, "In Japan, there is a device that automatically applies the brakes when pedal malfunction or misoperation occurs," and said, "Even if the foot is on the accelerator, if there is an obstacle 10 meters ahead, the machine detects it. It would be good to establish such systems in earnest."

Regarding the People Power Party’s leadership election, Mayor Oh confessed, "I was somewhat disappointed after watching the five-minute vision presentations by the candidates." He said, "Maybe because the time was too short, but it was regrettable that they could not explain a systematic vision with impact in such a brief time."

He also made remarks targeting candidate Han Dong-hoon. Mayor Oh stated, "Even those who said they would not use Yeouido grammar seem to be gradually adopting it when you listen to their words," and added, "I hope the competition focuses on making the Yoon Seok-yeol administration a beloved government."

Regarding the recent controversy over the construction of the Taegeukgi flagpole at Gwanghwamun, he announced plans to provide additional explanations in person next week. Mayor Oh said, "If I comprehensively explain the purpose and form in detail around next week, many misunderstandings will be resolved," and admitted, "I initially did not think much and suddenly presented the plan, which caused many misunderstandings." Earlier, at the two-year anniversary press conference, Mayor Oh had mentioned, "I am a very rational person, so I respond to reasonable criticism. I will soon create an opportunity to explain that response."
