Dongjak District in Seoul (Mayor Park Ilha) announced on July 4 that it received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award at the 2024 Korean Medicine Health Care Project Performance Conference.

The Korean Medicine Health Care Project Performance Conference, organized by the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development, is designed to select local governments and related organizations that have contributed to community health promotion and the advancement of Korean medicine, and to share and spread best practices and achievements. Dongjak District received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award in the local government category, while the Dongjak District Korean Medicine Association received the President's Award from the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development.

The district was highly praised for being the first in Seoul to provide the "Elderly Home Visit Korean Medicine Care Service" in collaboration with local Korean medicine institutions. The Elderly Home Visit Korean Medicine Care Service is a project in which Korean medicine doctors from local clinics visit the homes of vulnerable elderly individuals with mobility difficulties to provide medical examinations, disease treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping), and overall health management.

This year, the district has allocated 50 million won from its budget to provide free home visits and medication support to approximately 150 vulnerable elderly residents aged 65 and older, including recipients of basic living support and those in the near-poverty group.

Meanwhile, the cumulative number of consultations at the "Dongjak Filial Piety Call Center," which opened in March last year, has surpassed 12,000 cases, and from this year, its scope of work has expanded to include the "Filial Piety Call Taxi" service. In addition, the district is strengthening its public care role by introducing AI companion robots Hyodol and Hyosoon, operating a senior health park, and running a filial piety laundry service.

Mayor Park Ilha stated, "I am pleased that the projects promoted through public-private cooperation for the healthy aging of seniors have received positive evaluations," adding, "We will continue to develop senior policies in response to the super-aged society and establish Dongjak District as a city of filial piety."
