"Heo Ung, Continued Secondary Harm... Will Take Strong Action"
Former professional basketball player Heo Ung (31, KCC) has been sued by his ex-girlfriend A on charges including attempted extortion and threats. A has appointed a lawyer and is taking legal action.
On the 3rd, No Jong-eon, attorney at law firm Jonjae and legal representative of A, refuted the allegations made by Heo Ung’s side in a media interview. He said, "For intent to be established in attempted extortion, there must first be a recognized plan and purpose to threaten and obtain 300 million won. A did not repeatedly demand 300 million won over a long period; rather, when she informed Heo Ung of her pregnancy, she was angry at his irresponsible and evasive attitude and said something like 'If it’s going to be like this, just give me 300 million won and end it' once or twice over two days in anger."
He continued, "Secondly, she never gave an account number or made a specific demand for the money, and after calming down, they met and became a couple again before eventually breaking up. Therefore, this should be seen as an angry outburst during a lovers’ quarrel rather than an extortion attempt with intent to receive 300 million won," he argued. He added, "There is also text evidence showing A said, 'I don’t need 300 million won or anything like that.'"
Regarding the stalking charges, Attorney No drew a clear line, saying, "Stalking must be a continuous act, but there is no record of any report filed by Heo Ung’s side." He said, "There is a claim that A visited the house about three to four times, but this was after Heo Ung called her over, and they ended up arguing. To call this stalking is somewhat absurd." He added, "In fact, A was the victim of stalking by Heo Ung. Heo Ung unlawfully entered A’s home and left writings on her desk, and she once filed a complaint against him but later withdrew it."
Regarding the rumors that A had a background in nightlife establishments, he said, "This is groundless." Attorney No stated, "A only knows one acquaintance from such establishments but has never worked there. We are preparing legal action such as defamation suits against the ongoing secondary harm."
A’s side plans to continue legal action against Heo Ung and others who spread false information. In an interview with Sports Kyunghyang the previous day, Attorney No said, "Women are not outlets for desire. I never imagined a man would commit such acts and then sue his ex-girlfriend first. We will clearly clarify the facts and respond strongly without leniency to Heo Ung’s side and some media outlets that continue to inflict secondary harm on the victim."
Meanwhile, Heo Ung, the eldest son of the 'Basketball President' Heo Jae, filed a police complaint on the 26th of last month against his ex-girlfriend A for attempted extortion, threats, violations of the Stalking Punishment Act, and the Narcotics Control Act. Heo Ung’s side claims that after their breakup at the end of 2021, A threatened to expose his private life for three years and demanded 300 million won.
