Lee Jeong-seon, Superintendent of Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, conducted an emergency safety inspection on the afternoon of the 3rd by visiting schools located on steep slopes.
This inspection was carried out following the heavy rains from June 29 to July 2 and with a forecast of intense rainfall starting on the 4th.
Superintendent Lee Jeong-seon and officials from the city education office visited Donga Girls' Middle and High School, Sungui Science and Technology High School, and other institutions to examine facilities such as slopes and retaining walls and to check safety conditions.
Superintendent Lee emphasized the importance of thorough inspection and management of slopes at risk of collapse due to heavy rain during the monsoon season, and instructed the establishment of safety measures such as installing net rock cages, anchor reinforcement (retaining wall reinforcement), and slope protection and stabilization facilities to prepare for natural disasters.
Earlier, the city education office took preventive measures against flood and wind damage caused by the monsoon and heavy rain, including installing waterproof sheets, maintaining drainage channels, and restricting access to facilities with a high risk of disaster occurrence, such as slopes around schools.
Superintendent Lee Jeong-seon stated, “Facilities such as slopes and retaining walls at risk of collapse due to heavy summer rains require thorough inspection and management,” and added, “We will do our best to prevent safety accidents at disaster-vulnerable facilities.”
