The Chungnam Province has joined hands with Sejong City to sell the site of the Provincial Forest Resources Research Institute to the private sector.
On the 3rd, Governor Kim Tae-heum signed a "Memorandum of Understanding for Joint Response to the Relocation of the Chungnam Forest Resources Research Institute" with Sejong Mayor Choi Min-ho at Sejong City Hall.
According to the agreement, the province and Sejong City will form a task force team to cooperate mutually for the sale of the Forest Resources Research Institute site.
The Chungnam Forest Resources Research Institute was under the jurisdiction of Chungnam Province, but when Sejong City was established in 2012, it was incorporated into the city. However, no proper restitution or compensation has been received, and the site has been neglected for over ten years.
Since Governor Kim Tae-heum took office, he has requested the government to purchase the site, but as the issue remains unresolved, they have decided to sell it to the private sector.
Governor Kim said, "Due to long-term neglect and lack of government support, we intend to sell the site to the private sector. Several companies have shown interest, but cooperation from Sejong City is essential for a proper sale."
He added, "I hope the site will be developed in a way that meets the wishes of the Chungcheong residents and leads to an improvement in their quality of life. We will work as one team with Sejong City to ensure the sale and development proceed properly."
