Garcia Fails to Qualify for The Open Again This Year... "Time Is Cruel" Sergio Garcia

On the 2nd (local time), at the second round of The Open qualifying held at West Lancashire Golf Club (par 72, 6,973 yards) in Liverpool, England, he shot 2-under-par and finished tied for 6th place (3-under-par 141). He did not earn one of the four qualifying spots. Garcia, who plays on the LIV Golf tour, will miss The Open major tournament again this year, following last year. This year’s Open will be held over four days starting on the 18th at Royal Troon in Scotland.

After the round, Garcia expressed his dissatisfaction in an interview, saying, "The game was very slow because there were many fans. People were walking in front of us during shots, so we had to stop playing." In his younger days, he was so successful that he competed for the top spot with the ‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods (USA). He won the Masters, a major tournament, in 2017. He has 11 wins on the PGA Tour and 16 wins on the DP World Tour. Garcia has never won The Open; his best result was runner-up in 2007 after losing in a playoff to P?draig Harrington (Ireland).

Justin Rose (England) secured his ticket to The Open by finishing tied for first place in the qualifying round held at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club (par 71, 6,980 yards) in England. Rose, who won the 2013 US Open and the gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, struggled this year, dropping outside the top 50 in the world rankings. This year’s Open qualifying was held at four locations, with 16 players earning spots in the main tournament.
