The Chungnam Provincial Council, which had been in conflict over the position of standing committee chairperson, has reached an agreement on the organization of the 12th term's second half and elected six standing committee chairpersons.

On the 2nd, the Chungnam Provincial Council held the 2nd plenary session of the 353rd extraordinary meeting and conducted a vote to elect the standing committee chairpersons.

As a result of the vote, the following were elected: △Ahn Jong-hyeok (People Power Party, Cheonan 3) for the Planning and Economy Committee △Park Ki-young (People Power Party, Gongju 2) for the Administration and Culture Committee △Kim Min-su (Democratic Party, Proportional Representation) for the Welfare and Environment Committee △Lee Yeon-hee (People Power Party, Seosan 3) for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Maritime Committee △Ko Kwang-cheol (People Power Party, Gongju 1) for the Construction and Firefighting Committee △and Lee Sang-geun (People Power Party, Hongseong 1) for the Education Committee.

Kim Min-su, the only member from the Democratic Party among the standing committee chairpersons, said, "While all standing committees are important, the Welfare and Environment Committee is special in that it handles a massive budget exceeding 40% of the entire Chungnam budget and deals with tasks that directly affect the daily lives of residents. I will carefully ensure that a welfare system is established so that no one is left out."

Previously, regarding the organization of the council, the People Power Party nominated candidates for five out of the seven positions, including the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and six standing committee chairpersons, while the Democratic Party demanded two standing committee chairperson positions, leading to conflict.

Each floor leader agreed in the final negotiation held the day before the election of the chairperson group to a condition of serving one year each as chairpersons of the Special Budget and Accounts Committee and the Special Ethics Committee, reaching a final agreement.
