Bioson Pharmaceutical announced on the 2nd that it has signed a supply contract for 'Alzatin Capsule 150mg' with the global pharmaceutical company Ambicare.
Through this contract, Bioson Pharmaceutical will supply the gastric ulcer treatment drug 'Alzatin Capsule 150mg' to Ambicare (Canada), and Ambicare (Canada) will be responsible for the sales of the export version of Alzatin Capsule 150mg within Canada.
Bioson Pharmaceutical's 'Alzatin Capsule 150mg' is an anti-ulcer drug belonging to the H2 receptor antagonist class with the active ingredient nizatidine. In 2019, NDMA exceeding the allowable limit was detected in some nizatidine formulations, leading the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to recommend voluntary recalls. Accordingly, Bioson Pharmaceutical also decided to voluntarily recall all Alzatin Capsule products.
Since then, Bioson Pharmaceutical has strengthened the safety management standards for 'Alzatin Capsule 150mg.' Only raw materials less than six months old from the manufacturing date are used, and strict quality control is implemented from the raw material stage. Additionally, all shipped products undergo NDMA compliance evaluation according to the testing methods announced by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and only products confirmed to meet quality standards are supplied to the market, creating differentiation.
Canada supplies pharmaceuticals to hospitals and pharmacies through distributors and importers, and prescription drugs are sold more through large chain retailers than pharmacies, making it a country with high entry barriers for finished drug exports. According to IQVIA, the Canadian pharmaceutical market was valued at $23.8 billion in 2020, ranking 10th worldwide.
A representative from Bioson Pharmaceutical stated, “Unlike Korea, Canada lacks insurance support for pharmaceuticals, making it a market with great export potential for finished drugs but difficult to enter. Through the export contract for the safety-enhanced 'Alzatin Capsule 150mg,' we will actively pursue the American market, including Canada.”
