Hwasun-gun, Commemorative Event for Attracting National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Specialized Complex

Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 1st that it recently held a completion ceremony for the Gaemisan Observatory along with a commemorative event celebrating the successful attraction of the National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Special Zone to Hwasun.

The commemorative event was attended by over 1,000 residents, Shin Jeong-hoon, member of the National Assembly for the Naju-Hwasun district, So Young-ho, Director of the Strategic Industry Bureau of Jeollanam-do, Min Jeong-jun, Director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, and other invited guests and officials.

At the start of the Gaemisan Observatory completion ceremony, a progress report on the successful attraction of the National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Special Zone was presented by Lee Young-gyu, Bio Vaccine Officer, followed by greetings from Gu Bok-gyu, Governor of Hwasun-gun, and National Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon, a commemorative performance, and a group photo session.

Governor Gu Bok-gyu said in his greeting, “We have set the practical goal of ‘Fostering New Growth Future Industries and Revitalizing the Local Economy,’ a core pledge in the economic sector of the 8th elected administration, and have steadily nurtured the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone since 2010 for the future of Hwasun-gun.” He added, “Now, with well-established infrastructure, this is a historic and valuable achievement that positions us as a national bio and vaccine hub production base.”

He continued, “The National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Special Zone, designated by the government, is planned to be developed as an ‘Advanced Vaccine and Immunotherapy Specialized’ complex spanning approximately 730,000 pyeong around the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone.” He added, “Hwasun-gun will be reborn as a global bio-industry hub, creating about 10,000 jobs. This will serve as a future food industry for Hwasun-gun, preventing local extinction and becoming a driving force for significant growth in both local and national economies.”

Assemblyman Shin Jeong-hoon stated, “The Hwasun Bio Special Zone is expected to be a future growth engine for Hwasun-gun, contributing to regional economic revitalization as well as the health and welfare improvement of the entire nation.” He added, “The designation of the National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Special Zone in Hwasun is the only one in Jeollanam-do and will not only create jobs and revitalize the local economy but also play a decisive role in promoting sustainable regional development, serving as a solid foothold to overcome the crisis of local extinction.”

A Hwasun-gun official said, “With the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s designation of the National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio Special Zone, various benefits such as expedited permit processing, tax credits, priority allocation of government R&D budgets, and special exemptions during preliminary feasibility studies will be provided. Along with Hwasun’s existing bio-industry capabilities, the demand for corporate settlement is increasing, and explosive growth in the bio-industry is expected.”
