Marking 10 Years in Office: "Grateful to the Educational Community for Their Unwavering Support"
Kim Ji-cheol, Superintendent of Education of Chungnam Province, cited the introduction of the country's first 'free education' as the greatest achievement of Chungnam education over the past 10 years.
Superintendent Kim, who was elected as the 16th superintendent in July 2014, has been leading Chungnam education for 10 years, serving as the 17th in 2018 and the 18th in 2022.
At the monthly staff meeting held on the 1st, he said, "Ten years ago today, I pledged to become an honest superintendent who puts students at the center," and added, "I am grateful for the dedication and passion of the Chungnam education community who have unwaveringly supported the innovation and growth of Chungnam education."
As achievements over the past 10 years, Superintendent Kim listed △ the introduction of innovative schools △ stable establishment of schools and realization of safe and pleasant school environments △ response to COVID-19 △ introduction of future-oriented evaluation systems and class innovation △ completion of an honest organizational culture △ and promotion of Chungnam Future Education 2030.
He especially highlighted the realization of free education from kindergarten to high school, introduced nationwide for the first time, as the top achievement.
Superintendent Kim said, "I promised free education during the 2018 superintendent election, and in 2022, we completed free education from kindergarten to high school for the first time nationwide," adding, "We have become the first education office in the country to realize free education one year ahead of the national government, making history."
He also unveiled the 'Three Major Visions of Chungnam Future Schools' to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
Superintendent Kim presented three visions for Chungnam Future Schools: △ schools pursuing a balance between learning and life △ schools supporting individual growth based on edutech △ and schools that go beyond the boundaries of the school and community to work together with villages and regions.
He said, "We will complete the achievements of innovative education over the past 10 years with Chungnam Future Schools," and added, "The next 10 years will be a time to present and practice a vision of future education that can respond to the Fourth Industrial Revolution era and the era of population cliff."
He emphasized, "Today, we will create future schools in all schools in Chungnam by looking further ahead, thinking more broadly, and embracing education more deeply," and added, "We will keep reflecting on whether we have failed to appreciate the brilliant achievements, remembering our original intention and essence, and continue to review and reconsider."
