The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post announced on the 30th that starting next month, it will be possible to open a post office savings account using mobile driver's license authentication issued by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Previously, a physical ID was required for financial transactions such as product subscription and remittance. However, from early this year, financial transactions can be conducted at post office counters, and from the 1st of next month, mobile IDs can be used for financial transactions.
The deposit products that can be subscribed to remotely through the post office's 'Itda Banking' include a total of 24 types, such as the 'Daldalhi Savings'.
The Korea Post added that military personnel can also remotely subscribe to the 'Post Office Soldiers' Tomorrow Preparation Savings' on mobile if they obtain the 'Qualification Certificate for Soldiers' Tomorrow Preparation Savings Subscription' through the 'Nara Sarang Portal' application.
The Post Office Soldiers' Tomorrow Preparation Savings is a tax-exempt savings product, where the government provides financial support equivalent to 100% of the principal amount of the savings upon maturity after military discharge. Based on an 18-month service period in the Army, if an individual deposits the maximum monthly amount of 400,000 KRW, they can prepare approximately 14 million KRW in a lump sum upon discharge.
