US Study Finds You Must Eat Egg Yolks
Ingredients that help prevent Alzheimer's disease, a degenerative brain disorder known as the "saddest disease," have been identified. Egg yolks provide essential nutrients important for brain health. This is according to a recent study from Tufts University in the United States, published in the journal Nutrition.
The research team found that egg yolks are rich in choline, a nutrient beneficial for Alzheimer's. Choline supports the synthesis and release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter crucial for memory storage. It helps maintain cognitive function and prevent certain neurological disorders. One large egg contains about 169 mg of choline.
The Tufts University researchers tracked 1,024 individuals for an average of 6.7 years using data from the Rush Memory and Aging Project, including egg consumption frequency.
The results were remarkable. The researchers stated, "Observations showed that consuming at least one egg per week reduced the risk of developing Alzheimer's by 47%." In particular, the association between choline abundant in egg yolks and reduced Alzheimer's incidence reached 39%.
The health information media outlet Verywell Health explained, "This study confirmed that even consuming a small amount of eggs?one or fewer per week?slowed the rate of memory decline compared to those who did not eat eggs at all."
Eggs, rich in nutrients, are a versatile ingredient that can be enjoyed in various ways. They are low in calories while providing a good source of protein. Beyond this, eggs offer numerous benefits to our bodies. The American food media outlet EatingWell also highlighted the health effects of eggs. They help maintain satiety and restore vitality. Vitamins B12, D, and choline in the yolk all play important roles in converting food into usable energy for our bodies.
