Highest Bounty Among Female Fugitives Tracked by FBI

A whopping 7 billion KRW bounty has been placed on the so-called ‘Crypto Queen,’ the worst multi-level marketing cryptocurrency scammer in history.

On the 28th (local time), foreign media including BBC and Bloomberg reported that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has increased the reward for the arrest of Ruja Ignatova, who is accused of cryptocurrency fraud, to 5 million USD (approximately 6.925 billion KRW).

Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated, “We will pay a 5 million dollar reward to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of Ignatova.”

Born in Bulgaria in 1980 and holding German nationality, Ignatova is the founder of the cryptocurrency multi-level marketing scam project called ‘OneCoin.’

Along with her business partner Karl Sebastian Greenwood, she is accused of deceiving over 3.5 million investors from 2014 to 2016 and embezzling 4 billion USD (approximately 5.54 trillion KRW).

Ignatova lived a luxurious life, residing in a top-tier penthouse in London, UK, and owning a yacht worth over 7 million USD (approximately 9.6 billion KRW) with the money earned from the scam. However, she was indicted in October 2017 after being caught, and an arrest warrant was issued, but she immediately fled and remains at large.

The 5 million USD bounty is 50 times higher than when Ignatova was first placed on the wanted list in June 2022, and it is the highest amount for a female criminal pursued by the FBI.

Spokesperson Miller said, “Ignatova holds a German passport and may have altered her appearance through plastic surgery.”

He added, “It is presumed that Ignatova moves with armed guards or armed associates,” and “She may have fled to the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Greece, or Eastern Europe.”
