Gangnam-gu, with Many Students and Office Workers, Receives 'Grand Prize' for 'Correct Posture Improvement Project' Gangnam-gu received the Grand Prize in the Basic Local Government Administration category at the "2024 Korea Local Council and Local Administration Expo" on the 29th. Gangnam-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) announced on the 30th that it won the 'Grand Prize' in the local government administration category for the Correct Posture Improvement Project at the '2024 Korea Local Council and Local Administration Expo' held on the 29th.

This marks the second consecutive year of winning the grand prize, following last year's award for the Digital Future Talent Development Project centered on the Future Education Center.

Since last year, Gangnam-gu has been operating a health check-up program that uses the latest body measurement equipment to identify physical imbalances and provides one-on-one customized exercise prescriptions.

This year, the project was expanded to offer on-site examination services at schools, workplaces, and organizations. In particular, to prevent posture deformities in growing children at an early stage, an examination bus equipped with specialized equipment such as X-rays and a body shape analyzer (Form Checker) visits schools.

Moving beyond the previous on-site examinations that only conducted screenings, the program now links posture habits and exercise management based on the health check-up. It also provides education emphasizing that correct physical posture leads to a positive mindset, which received great responses from students and parents. Additionally, Gangnam-gu produced its own 'Healthy Life 24 Cuts,' a bodyweight strength training program that can be easily performed anywhere to help residents exercise systematically.

Among the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, Gangnam-gu has the highest number of businesses (approximately 110,000 businesses, about 800,000 employees) and the second highest number of students (62,000). Considering the regional characteristics where many office workers and students spend most of their day sitting in chairs, the district intensified efforts to promote the Correct Posture Improvement Project. As a result, the prevalence of related diseases significantly decreased from 13.67% in 2015 to 3.96% in 2023, which was highly praised.

The expo is being held at the Daejeon Convention Center, Exhibition Hall 2, until the 30th of this month. Gangnam-gu set up a promotional booth where visitors could check their posture and receive consultations, gaining great popularity.

Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said, “It is an honor to have Gangnam-gu’s capabilities recognized and to receive the grand prize at a gathering where nationwide metropolitan and basic councils and local governments come together to realize a higher level of local autonomy. We will aim to be a health center close to the residents and promote projects that can achieve practical health improvements based on community statistics.”
