New IDC to Establish Renewable Energy Facilities
Plan to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050
LG Uplus has established a 1000 kW-class self-operated solar power generation facility at its Daejeon R&D Center. On the morning of the 28th, LG Uplus held a completion ceremony at the Daejeon R&D Center attended by CEO Hwang Hyun-sik and key executives, and began operating the solar power generation facility.

This solar power generation facility was installed over a total area of 4,862㎡ including the parking lot and playground within the Daejeon R&D Center, using 1,740 bifacial solar panels. It can produce approximately 1,371,816 kWh of electricity annually, replacing about 11% of the Daejeon R&D Center’s annual electricity consumption with renewable energy. It is the largest single-facility solar power generation installation operated by the domestic telecommunications industry.
It can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 630 tons annually, which is equivalent to planting 4,510 pine trees.
Prior to the Daejeon R&D Center, LG Uplus has also built and operated a 61.36 kW self-operated solar power generation facility at the Pyeongchon 2 Center Internet Data Center (IDC), which opened in September last year, and plans to install renewable energy generation facilities at new IDCs to be constructed in the future.
Additionally, LG Uplus is considering businesses that trade renewable energy through virtual power plants (VPP) and renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPA).
LG Uplus is striving to convert the electricity used to operate telecommunications equipment to renewable energy. It has set the '2050 Carbon Neutrality' goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and to convert 100% of its electricity consumption to renewable energy. To this end, it joined K-RE100 in 2022 and is concretizing and expanding company-wide energy transition plans.
Lee Hong-ryeol, Head of ESG Promotion Office at LG Uplus, said, "We are doing our best to achieve the carbon neutrality goal to meet sustainable management objectives," adding, "We will continue to strengthen communication with stakeholders on environmental issues, implement more ideas, and promote environmental management activities."
