New 'Busan-type Scholarship for International Students' and 'Busan Foreign Workers Support Center' Operating for Employment of Foreign Students and Workers

Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon met with Nabeel Munir, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Korea, at 3:10 p.m. on the 28th in the International Protocol Room at City Hall to discuss ways to promote mutual exchange and cooperation between Busan and Pakistan.

Ambassador Nabeel Munir visited Busan to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for global talent development among Dong-A University, the Embassy of Pakistan in Korea, and STS Robotech, and met with Mayor Park on this occasion.

Mayor Park began by saying, "Pakistan, with a population of 240 million, ranks fifth in the world and has limitless growth potential. I expect that today's meeting will serve as a catalyst for more active exchanges between our two regions."

He continued, "This year, Busan has established the 'Busan Foreign Workers Support Center' to provide various counseling and educational services for foreign workers who have entered Korea under the employment permit system, as well as for the businesses employing them. We have also launched the 'Busan-type International Student Scholarship' this year to provide practical support for local universities and international students. We plan to strengthen university admissions promotions for low-skilled and non-professional foreign workers in Korea, create new educational programs, and help them transition into skilled workers. I hope the embassy will provide significant support so that outstanding students and young people from Pakistan can study and find employment in Busan," he emphasized.

In response, Ambassador Nabeel Munir said, "Although exchanges between Busan and Pakistan have not been very active so far, Pakistani workers are playing important roles in Busan's manufacturing sector. Our embassy will also make efforts to vitalize exchanges between our two regions in the future."

He particularly highlighted the importance of exchange and cooperation with Karachi, a city very similar to Busan as a vibrant port city, commercial center, and multicultural hub.

Finally, Mayor Park concluded the meeting by saying, "The citizens of Busan are very grateful for the assistance received from Pakistan during the Korean War. Many Busan citizens hold friendly feelings toward Pakistan, and we will strive to strengthen cooperation with various cities in Pakistan, focusing on Karachi."
