The Paris Olympic Organizing Committee (hereafter the Organizing Committee) held a demonstration of the athlete's village dining hall on the 26th (Korean time) and announced the operation plan for the dining hall at this Paris Olympics.
AFP reported, "The Organizing Committee unveiled menus that combine French cooking methods with eco-friendliness," adding, "However, French fries will not be served," describing the atmosphere at the demonstration.
The athlete's village dining hall consists of six zones with a total of 3,300 seats, and half of the 50 daily menu items will be 100% vegetarian dishes. French fries have been excluded from the athlete's village dining hall menu for this Olympics.
AFP reported, "McDonald's, a longtime sponsor of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), operated a store in the athlete's village until the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games," adding, "Athletes who want French fries will have to go to downtown Paris (outside the athlete's village)."
Estelle Lamotte, deputy manager of the athlete's village dining hall, explained, "French fries were removed from the menu due to technical difficulties in using fryers in the village kitchen."
The food menu for this event focuses on reducing carbon emissions. The number of vegetarian dishes has increased. Sixty percent of the food provided to fans inside the venues is vegetarian, and no meat is used in the food at the skateboarding, BMX, and breaking venues.
Also, to reduce carbon emissions, air conditioning will be operated in only two of the six zones in the athlete's village dining hall. The other four zones will minimize heat with shade installations and fans. AFP noted, "The temperature on the day of the dining hall unveiling was 27 degrees Celsius, and quite a few people were sweating."
Tony Estanguet, chairman of the Organizing Committee, said, "People visiting this event will have high expectations not only for French culture and heritage but also for the food," adding, "We have prepared with pride so that athletes from around the world can taste the excellence of French cuisine."
