Opening of the Korea-US Industrial Technology Cooperation Center at Top US Universities Including Yale and Johns Hopkins

On the 27th (local time), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 'Korea-US Advanced Industry Technology Cooperation Forum' in Washington D.C., USA, and announced the opening of the 'Korea-US Industrial Technology Cooperation Centers' at four top US universities.

The forum was attended by over 200 participants, including Minister An Deok-geun of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Don Graves, Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Commerce, and experts from both governments, companies, and academia-industry-research sectors, to discuss ways to expand Korea-US advanced technology cooperation.

To strengthen the role as a hub for bilateral technology cooperation, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is establishing cooperation centers at top US universities including Yale, Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech, and Purdue. Through these cooperation centers, they plan to discover excellent collaborative projects such as R&D planning and researcher matching between these universities and Korean companies. Each university will be responsible for support tasks such as assigning dedicated coordinators and providing research spaces. The number of Industrial Technology Cooperation Centers will expand from 6 this year to 12 by 2027.

The Ministry, which is actively promoting international cooperation in advanced technology, plans to launch medium to large-scale (around 10 billion KRW) and mid- to long-term (up to 5 years) international joint R&D projects from the second half of this year to secure next-generation growth engines. Domestic companies submitted 247 consortia applications for 45 project calls this year.
