The identities of all 23 deceased victims recovered from the fire at the Arisel factory, a primary battery manufacturer in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, have been confirmed. The police have completed notifying the victims' families of the identification results.
The Arisel Fire Accident Investigation Headquarters of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 27th, "As of 5 p.m., we have received additional DNA comparison results for six deceased victims from the National Forensic Service," adding, "With this, the identification of all 23 deceased victims has been completed."
The deceased include 5 Koreans (3 males, 2 females), 17 Chinese nationals (3 males, 14 females), and 1 Laotian female.
In some cases, personal information was initially identified through DNA analysis from personal items such as toothbrushes, but final identification was completed after DNA comparison with family members. Accordingly, discussions on the funeral procedures for the deceased are expected to proceed in earnest.
On the same day, Hwaseong City held a briefing session at the city hall auditorium in the morning for the families whose identities had been confirmed, explaining the funeral support procedures.
The briefing focused on explaining the funeral and departure support available to the families, as well as collecting the families' preferences regarding the form of the funeral.
In the afternoon, Arisel CEO Park Soon-kwan met with the families for the first time to express his apologies and promised to prepare follow-up measures, including the funeral arrangements.
The Gyeonggi Province and Hwaseong City Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated, "We will provide thorough support throughout the entire process from the funeral to the departure of the victims."
