On the 27th, China's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that China has produced the world's first passenger train made of carbon fiber.
According to the report, China unveiled the carbon fiber passenger train named Cetrovo 1.0 in Qingdao, Shandong Province the day before.
According to Qingdao Supang, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), the manufacturer, Cetrovo 1.0 has completed factory testing. The company announced that it plans to start operation in the coastal city by the end of the year.
Qingdao Supang also stated that this train is 11% lighter than conventional trains and reduces energy consumption by 7%. This corresponds to an annual reduction of about 130 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to creating a forest covering 400,000 square meters.
Additionally, according to the state-run Global Times, the top speed of Cetrovo 1.0 is 140 km/h, which is faster than the average speed of conventional trains (80 km/h).
