Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Fostering Semiconductors and Proactively Responding to the Climate Crisis"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it will carry out an organizational restructuring to establish 2 new bureaus and 4 new divisions in response to administrative demands due to population growth.
The city explained that this organizational restructuring follows the revision of the "Regulations on Administrative Organizations and Staffing Standards of Local Governments" by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in March, which included measures to expand local government autonomy in organizational authority.
First, the city will separate the Job and Industry Bureau, which previously had 7 affiliated divisions. Accordingly, the existing Job and Industry Bureau will be divided into the ▲Economic and Industry Bureau and the newly established ▲Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Bureau, and the Transportation and Construction Bureau will be split into the ▲Transportation Policy Bureau and the newly established ▲Construction Bureau.
In the first organizational restructuring since Mayor Lee Sang-il of the 8th term took office, the 'New Growth Strategy Bureau,' which was newly established to promote the key project of semiconductor industry development, will be renamed the 'Semiconductor Competitiveness Enhancement Bureau.' The Semiconductor Competitiveness Enhancement Bureau will oversee both the Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex in I-dong and Namsa and the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex in Wonsam.
In the restructuring, the temporary organization 'Future Industry Promotion Team,' which had been promoting the Platform City project, will be abolished, and instead, a new 'Future City Planning Bureau' will be established to serve as a control tower for urban development and new town creation and support. The Future City Planning Bureau will consist of the ▲Future Growth Strategy Division, ▲Corporate Industrial Complex Location Division, and ▲Future City Division. The Platform City project will be managed by the Future City Division.
The city will also abolish the existing Environmental Sanitation Office and establish a new 'Environment Bureau' under the second deputy mayor to strengthen responses to the climate crisis and carbon neutrality efforts.
For systematic urban management, the Housing Policy Division and Road Structures Division will also be newly established. Additionally, the Tax Division in Giheung District will be split to create a new Tax Division 2, and a Family Welfare Division will be established in Suji District, separating it from the Social Welfare Division.
Through this organizational restructuring, the Yongin City main office organization will expand from the existing '2 offices, 7 bureaus, 1 team, 57 divisions' to '2 offices, 11 bureaus, 63 divisions.'
Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin City said, "This organizational restructuring reflects our intention to lead and efficiently promote regional issues such as semiconductor industry development, new town development, and climate crisis response, while aligning with the government's policy to minimize staff increases. We will do our best to actively implement policies that citizens can feel and provide high-quality administrative services."
