Professor Nam Jae-cheol, who gave the lecture, also published a book this year titled "The Sixth Mass Extinction Signal, Food War," addressing climate change and the food crisis. He majored in meteorology and served as the 12th Commissioner of the Korea Meteorological Administration, recognized as the nation's top expert on food and climate.
In this lecture, Professor Nam delivered a passionate talk with professional yet easy-to-understand explanations about the economic trends and the importance of agriculture in the era of the global climate crisis, receiving great responses from the attendees.
Through the lecture, Professor Nam emphasized that agriculture, which is highly dependent on climate, is particularly vulnerable to the global climate crisis, making the role of the corporation managing agricultural infrastructure even more important. He pointed out that responding to climate change is directly linked to food security, which affects the survival of the people, and suggested climate-smart agriculture and the expansion of digital agriculture as countermeasures.
Jo Young-ho, head of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters, said, "It was a meaningful time to seek and learn ways to wisely overcome the upcoming crisis through a more professional perspective on climate change," adding, "We will continue our efforts for sustainable rural communities."
