On the 27th, HD Hyundai announced that HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and HD Hyundai Marine Solutions have signed a memorandum of understanding on the application of AI solutions for onboard safety management and carbon emission reduction together with Pan Ocean, POS SM, and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Under this agreement, the "AI Onboard Safety Management Package Solution" developed by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering will be utilized for ship safety. This package solution, consisting of the Integrated Condition-Based Monitoring Solution (HiCBM) and the Integrated Safety Control Solution (HiCAMS), diagnoses the condition of key equipment on board in real time, preventing accidents on operating vessels and automatically recognizing emergency and unexpected situations to facilitate prompt responses.

The participating companies plan to verify the effectiveness of these two solutions by applying them to Pan Ocean’s 174,000㎥ LNG carrier currently under construction at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

For carbon emission reduction, HD Hyundai Marine Solutions’ "OceanWise" will be applied. OceanWise is a solution that measures and predicts carbon emissions based solely on the vessel’s location information and provides optimal navigation routes that minimize fuel consumption.

Pan Ocean intends to reduce carbon emissions generated during vessel operations and cut operating expenses (OPEX) by applying OceanWise. ABS will verify the reliability of OceanWise and explore ways to automatically issue approval documents linked with OceanWise during the measurement process of carbon emissions required for the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
