The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that additional trains will be deployed on the Gimpo Goldline starting from the 28th. This measure follows the 'Short-term Congestion Relief Plan for Gimpo Goldline' announced at the livelihood forum in January.

The Ministry plans to add a total of 11 more trains to the Gimpo Goldline by the end of 2026. First, six additional trains will be deployed by January next year. One train will be added on the 28th, two trains on August 30, two trains on September 30, and one train in January next year. Furthermore, five more trains will be added by the end of 2026.

The congestion rate of the Gimpo Goldline, which had reached 224%, is expected to gradually decrease to a maximum of 150% through the increase in trains. The number of passengers crowding onto one Gimpo Goldline train will decrease from 385 to 258.

The congestion rate of the Gimpo Goldline was reduced to 195% in March through shuttle bus deployment and shortened intervals between trains, but it increased again to 200% this month. The congestion rate is calculated based on the capacity of one train (100%). According to Gimpo City, the transport capacity per Gimpo Goldline train is 172 passengers.

With the addition of trains, the interval between trains, which was 3 minutes, will be reduced to 2 minutes and 30 seconds by September. Especially, the number of runs during rush hours will increase from 42 to 51, allowing more than 2,000 additional passengers to use the Gimpo Goldline daily. The Ministry plans to shorten the interval to 2 minutes and 10 seconds by the end of 2026.

To reduce the transportation burden on the Gimpo Goldline and diversify commuting routes for Gimpo citizens, the Ministry connected two metropolitan bus routes in March and will open two more metropolitan bus semi-public routes.

First, the 6601 metropolitan bus route from Gimpo Hyundai Primeville to Dangsan Station will operate starting on the 29th. Four double-decker electric buses will be deployed to secure sufficient capacity, operating 28 times a day. Depending on passenger demand, the frequency may increase to 52 times a day. Additionally, preparations are underway to operate a route to Sangam DMC in the second half of the year, including vehicle and depot arrangements.

Moreover, starting in August, the Dangsan Station turnaround transfer center will open, enabling convenient transfers from metropolitan buses to the subway. Previously, taking a metropolitan bus from Gimpo to Dangsan Station required passing through congested city sections. However, with the operation of the transfer center at Dangsan Station, buses will enter Dangsan Station directly from Olympic-daero.

The Ministry plans to commission the detailed design for the expansion of the Gihwa IC lanes in July. Future operations of bus-only lanes will be discussed with related agencies such as Seoul City and the National Police Agency.

Park Sang-woo, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "We will complete the increase of Gimpo Goldline trains by the end of September, and continue to seek additional measures to secure transport capacity, including the opening of metropolitan bus routes, operation commencement of the Dangsan Station transfer center, and establishment of bus-only lanes on Olympic-daero."
