GH Signs Agreement with Samsung C&T for Use of 'Carbon-Reducing Construction Materials' in Hanam Gyosan District

GH Signs Agreement with Samsung C&T for Use of 'Carbon-Reducing Construction Materials' in Hanam Gyosan District On the 27th, Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation signed an agreement with Samsung C&T at the GH Hanam Project Team in Hanam City to actively respond to carbon-neutral policies addressing the climate crisis by applying 'cement-free' paving blocks and using carbon-reducing construction materials.

Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) is expanding the use of carbon-reducing construction materials.

On the 27th, GH announced that it signed an agreement with Samsung C&T at the GH Hanam Project Team in Hanam City to actively respond to carbon-neutral policies addressing the climate crisis by applying ‘cement-free’ paving blocks as carbon-reducing construction materials.

GH plans to pilot the application of cement-free paving blocks on some pedestrian sidewalks in the Sangsan-gok corporate relocation complex in the Hanam Gyosan district, which will begin full-scale construction in the second half of this year, and verify their efficiency and other factors.

Samsung C&T previously developed cement-free paving blocks that meet KS certification standards by using blast furnace slag and activators instead of cement, which has a high carbon emission ratio, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

GH aims to actively implement Gyeonggi Province’s carbon-neutral policies and fulfill its social role as a public housing and urban development institution by establishing internal regulations prioritizing the use of low-carbon construction materials, thereby laying the foundation for revitalizing carbon reduction technology and material development.

Since the inauguration of Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province, GH has been continuously expanding Gyeonggi’s policy projects to achieve carbon neutrality (NetZero) in urban development and construction sectors, including the introduction of zero-energy buildings in the housing sector and the creation of carbon-neutral industrial complexes.

Kim Se-yong, President of GH, emphasized, "We will spare no support or effort from the public sector to realize carbon neutrality from the total lifecycle perspective of construction products, including not only construction materials but also material transportation, construction, operation, and demolition."
