County Governor Gong Yeong-min Unveils Blueprint for Achieving 'Goheung Population of 100,000' Vision at 2nd Anniversary Press Conference of 8th Elected Term
On the 27th, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) held a press conference marking the 2nd anniversary of the 8th local government at the county office’s Uju Hall, attended by about 90 people including journalists and senior officials.
The conference proceeded with an explanation of the major achievements of the 8th local government’s 2 years and the future direction of county administration, followed by a dialogue with the press.
Governor Gong Yeong-min, who presided over the meeting, said, “The past two years have been a period to solidify Goheung’s position as a space aviation hub city and to firmly lay the foundation for achieving a population of 100,000 by 2030,” adding, “In the next two years, we will work even harder to realize Goheung-gun’s vision centered on our three future strategic industries: space, drones, and smart farms.”
Governor Gong highlighted the major achievements over the past two years as follows: ▲ Establishment of a space launch vehicle industrial cluster and exemption from preliminary feasibility study for the national space launch vehicle industrial complex approved at the Cabinet meeting ▲ Securing a strategic industrial advantage in drones and UAM (Urban Air Mobility) ▲ Expansion and creation of a large-scale Goheung-type smart farm innovation valley ▲ Opening of the era of a 1 trillion KRW budget for Goheung-gun despite government austerity measures ▲ Achieving the highest national grade (SA) in the nationwide evaluation of basic local government officials’ pledge fulfillment in the 2nd year of the 8th local government ▲ Achieving an overall grade 2 in the 2023 public institution comprehensive integrity evaluation ▲ Laying the foundation for the era of 10 million tourists in Goheung ▲ Expanding export channels for agricultural, marine, and livestock products and revitalizing the local economy ▲ Improving residential conditions for youth and returning farmers and fishermen, and creating residential complexes by region ▲ Expanding local residential infrastructure ▲ Establishing a meticulous welfare system without blind spots.
He then revealed a blueprint for the county administration’s direction over the next two years, concretizing the vision of “achieving a population of 100,000 by 2030” and explaining the key projects of the “3 Future Strategies and 7 Growth Engines” that will drive Goheung’s hopeful future.
The three future strategies focus on intensively fostering Goheung-gun’s core industries: “space, drones/UAM, and smart farms,” and enhancing internal and external recognition through ▲ building a space launch vehicle industrial cluster ▲ promoting drone and UAM tourism commercialization ▲ expanding the Goheung-type smart farm innovation valley.
The seven growth engines are ▲ creating conditions for the era of 10 million tourists in Goheung ▲ strengthening competitiveness through high value-added agriculture, marine, and livestock industries ▲ job creation and revitalization of the local economy ▲ providing meticulous and warm welfare that moves people ▲ expanding local residential infrastructure and revitalizing the local economy ▲ implementing citizen-centered communication and responsible administration ▲ creating a shared Goheung culture, history, and sports environment.
The county plans to increase quality jobs through the three future strategic industries, create public rental housing by region, build wide-area road and railway networks, and expand large-scale tourist facilities to dramatically improve accessibility and residential conditions.
Governor Gong Yeong-min said, “At the turning point of the 8th local government, with the same heart expressed in my inauguration speech two years ago about Goheung’s change and development and ‘looking only at Goheung and its citizens,’ we will continue to move forward,” adding, “We will complete the projects currently underway and unite all administrative capabilities to create a Goheung where all citizens live well together.”
Meanwhile, to mark the 2nd anniversary of the 8th local government, a professional polling agency conducted a satisfaction survey on county administration from May 23 to 31 among 1,014 residents. The results showed a high satisfaction rate with 84.9% responding “doing well,” while only 15.1% gave negative evaluations.
