On the 27th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy conducted an inspection of nuclear power plant safety measures, including the readiness for safe operation by each headquarters at the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant during the summer season. They also conducted an on-site inspection of the progress in analyzing the cause of the coolant leakage at Wolseong Unit 4 that occurred on the 22nd.


Kim Jin, Director of Nuclear Strategy Planning at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, who visited Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant that day, stated, "Concerns about nuclear power plant safety are increasing due to frequent recent malfunctions and coolant leakage incidents," and instructed, "Each headquarters should strengthen their readiness for safe operation to ensure stable power supply during the expected heatwave in summer without any disruption." Regarding the recent coolant leakage incident, he urged, "To prevent public concerns about nuclear safety, each nuclear power plant headquarters must remain vigilant and thoroughly inspect nuclear facilities to prevent similar cases from occurring."


According to the Ministry, the five nuclear power plant headquarters chiefs attending the meeting said, "We must strengthen on-site inspections of critical equipment that cause malfunctions and monitor operational variables, and thoroughly prepare for natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and heavy rains." They added, "In addition to the Wolseong headquarters where the coolant leakage occurred, we will conduct detailed inspections of frequently malfunctioning equipment at all nuclear power plants and perform thorough quality verification of parts related to safe nuclear power plant operation."
