Construction to proceed for 3 months from July
Achieving 100% LED adoption rate by next year
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will replace streetlights along Heojun-ro with high-efficiency LEDs over the next three months starting next month to create a brighter and safer road environment. The streetlights along Heojun-ro have been in place for over 10 years, raising concerns about wiring deterioration, pole corrosion, malfunctions, and safety accidents.
In response, the district has been carrying out construction since last year, starting with the Gayang 2-dong section of Heojun-ro, and plans to complete the entire section by next year. This year’s construction covers approximately 1 km from the Gayang Public Library to the Gayang 6 Complex Apartments, involving 35 locations.
The LED streetlights installed in this section have higher illuminance, making them brighter than the existing streetlights and improving object recognition, which helps prevent crime. Additionally, their high energy efficiency contributes to energy savings and greenhouse gas reduction.
To improve the urban landscape, the district will also replace corroded streetlight poles in the area. During the construction period, pedestrian safety assistants will be deployed on-site to thoroughly manage and prevent any inconvenience or safety accidents for residents.
Meanwhile, Gangseo-gu plans to replace 1,296 streetlights and security lights this year and 372 next year to achieve a 100% LED adoption rate.
