Gyeonggi Province will crack down on freshwater water leisure activities.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it will conduct a joint crackdown on freshwater water leisure activities from July 12 to August 17, coinciding with the peak summer season for water leisure activities.
Earlier, Gyeonggi Province conducted education on relevant laws and safety management for those involved in freshwater water leisure activities in 14 cities and counties, including Gapyeong, over two months from April to May. Additionally, safety inspections were carried out on water leisure businesses from May to June.
This joint crackdown will involve officials from Gyeonggi Province, city and county personnel, and the local coast guard. The main items targeted for enforcement include ▲not wearing safety equipment ▲unlicensed operation ▲operating under the influence of alcohol ▲operating unregistered water leisure equipment ▲exceeding passenger capacity, among others.
Gyeonggi Province stated that violators caught during this joint crackdown will be strictly dealt with according to the law, including judicial measures and fines depending on the nature of the violation.
Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "As the number of water leisure participants increases significantly, the possibility of safety accidents is also rising. We conducted safety education for related personnel and safety inspections of business sites ahead of the crackdown, and through this joint enforcement, we will strive to establish a culture of safe leisure activities."
