Yeongdeungpo-gu Operates Transportation Service for Mobility-Disadvantaged 'Yeongdeungpo Taewodeurim'

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is operating the customized transportation support project for low-income transportation-vulnerable individuals called ‘Yeongdeungpo Taewodeurim’ to accelerate the ‘Yeongdeungpo-style companionship with the vulnerable.’

The district announced that it was selected in March for Seoul’s ‘Companionship with the Vulnerable’ autonomous district contest, securing a project budget of 36 million KRW to promote the specialized project ‘Yeongdeungpo Taewodeurim’ to guarantee mobility rights for low-income transportation-vulnerable individuals.

This project provides customized transportation services tailored to individuals’ schedules, such as hospital visits and government offices, targeting low-income groups including basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty, and those with incomes below 120% of the median income who have difficulty moving.

Additionally, if a guardian is needed for transportation, an accompanying manager is provided to ensure a safer travel environment.

In particular, the district expanded the target group more broadly to discover residents in blind spots through this project. The support targets not only people with disabilities who have difficulty moving but also ▲ elderly without disability grades ▲ mild disabled persons who cannot receive benefits due to disability grading despite mobility difficulties ▲ temporarily transportation-vulnerable individuals due to injuries or chemotherapy treatment.

Taewodeurim operates year-round on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The maximum number of passengers is up to three, including wheelchair users, and users can travel within the Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon areas.

Those wishing to participate can apply through their local community service center, and after selection, reservations and usage can be made via phone, internet, or app. For other inquiries, detailed guidance is available by contacting the district office’s Welfare Policy Division or each local community service center.

Meanwhile, during the project period, the district will conduct regular monitoring to improve user satisfaction and provide specialized training related to specially modified vehicles capable of wheelchair boarding for drivers to strengthen safety management.

Furthermore, the district expects that through this project, residents will overcome mobility inconveniences caused by physical limitations, communicate with the local community, and lead healthy lives.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “I hope this project will enhance the mobility convenience of low-income transportation-vulnerable individuals, and we will strive to ensure smooth provision of customized transportation services through continuous monitoring. We will also do our best to discover residents in blind spots by dedicating ourselves to the Yeongdeungpo-style companionship with the vulnerable project.”
