Daejeon City Council's Second Half Speaker Election Disrupted... Intensified Infighting within People Power Party On the afternoon of the 26th, Kim Seon-gwang and 11 other People Power Party city council members issued a statement in the city council lobby criticizing the People Power Party city council members who disrupted the chairman election.

The Daejeon City Council failed to elect a chairperson for the second half of the term after experiencing disruptions due to internal conflicts among the majority People Power Party members.

On the 26th, the Daejeon City Council held the 1st plenary session of the 279th extraordinary meeting and conducted a vote on Kim Seon-gwang (39, People Power Party, Jung-gu 2), who had registered as a candidate for chairperson. However, with 11 votes in favor and 11 invalid votes, he did not secure a majority and the motion was rejected.

The People Power Party, holding 20 of the 22 seats, had held a party meeting on the 24th and designated Councilor Kim Seon-gwang as the candidate for the 9th term's second half chairperson. They also signed a pledge to impose disciplinary action on anyone registering as a candidate outside the chairperson group. However, in the vote, nine People Power Party councilors, excluding two Democratic Party members, cast dissenting votes.

A second vote was scheduled after a recess was declared, but the chairperson election failed to meet the quorum and was ultimately adjourned.

After the adjournment, councilors supporting candidate Kim Seon-gwang issued a statement in the council lobby, demanding an apology from the councilors who sided with the disruption of the organizational formation and calling for their expulsion.

In the statement, they criticized, "The majority of People Power Party councilors who colluded with the Democratic Party cast invalid votes, driving the organizational formation into chaos. We want to ask where the conscience is of those blinded by greed for position who betrayed the trust of their fellow councilors and caused this disruption."

They continued, "Councilors who break promises with their colleagues and only seek positions should deeply reflect and resign from their council seats," and demanded, "The People Power Party must expel the councilors who became the main culprits of this disruption."
