At the Gwangju Metropolitan City Nam-gu Council, controversy has arisen as a council member recently embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal registered as a candidate ahead of the chairperson election.
According to the Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea on the 26th, as of 6 p.m. that day, two candidates had registered for the Nam-gu Council chairperson election primary.
The issue is that among them, Councilor A is the person accused of making sexually harassing remarks to public official B, who belongs to the Nam-gu Council, last month.
Councilor A is suspected of making sexually inappropriate remarks to B, who visited the councilor's office in May to deliver materials for the standing committee.
In response, the Nam-gu Council reportedly gave Councilor A a verbal warning and plans to change the standing committee assignment of employee B, who belongs to the same standing committee, starting from July when the second half of the local council session begins.
Since B does not wish for disciplinary action against Councilor A, it is reported that the decision to hold a special ethics committee meeting has not been made.
Meanwhile, the Gwangju Nam-gu chairperson election is scheduled to be held on the 4th of next month after the Democratic Party's internal primary concludes on the 29th.
