Additional Industrial Water Supply for Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex Included in National Plan

Partial Amendment to National Capital Basic Plan Signals Green Light for Industrial Water Supply to National Industrial Complex

Resolving Industrial Water Shortage... Boosting Secondary Battery Specialized Complex and Corporate Attraction

Pohang City announced on the 26th that the additional industrial water supply project, in response to the designation of the Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex as a specialized secondary battery cluster and large-scale investment plans, has been included in the National Waterworks Master Plan.

The Ministry of Environment announced on the 17th a partial amendment to the National Waterworks Master Plan, which includes plans for stable water supply such as expanding water supply facilities and developing alternative water sources to resolve supply-demand imbalances for four national industrial complexes, including the Pohang Blue Valley National Industrial Complex.

The second phase water supply project for the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex, which has been included this time, plans to invest a total of 87.9 billion KRW from 2024 to 2031 to newly establish a water purification plant, a booster station, and water supply pipelines (L=12.1km), thereby supplying an additional 21,000 cubic meters of water per day.

The Blue Valley National Industrial Complex currently receives water through the Pohang Industrial Waterworks, but considering the phased industrial water demand presented in the 17th Industrial Complex Plan amendment in April, a shortage is expected from 2026, with a maximum deficit of 19,100 cubic meters per day predicted.

According to the adjustment plan for the metropolitan and industrial water supply system in the Pohang area of the National Waterworks Master Plan, it will be possible to supply water to the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex by utilizing the reserve capacity of 21,000 cubic meters per day from the Pohang Industrial Waterworks. The plan reflects the installation of water supply facilities by branching off from the existing Pohang Industrial Waterworks pipeline.

Kwon Hyukwon, Director of the Job and Economy Bureau, said, "With this partial amendment to the National Waterworks Master Plan, we expect not only to resolve the shortage of industrial water at the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex, but also to greatly contribute to the establishment of the specialized secondary battery cluster and the attraction of companies. We will do our best, in cooperation with related agencies, to ensure that companies in the Blue Valley National Industrial Complex can smoothly conduct their business without concerns about water supply."
