Coast Guard Headquarters Selects 6 Regulatory Innovations Including Improvement of Departure Roll Call Method at Juvenile Fishery Grounds

The Korea Coast Guard announced on the 26th that it has selected six representative cases of regulatory innovation for the first half of this year.


The Coast Guard chose representative cases of regulatory innovation divided into five areas: ▲Improvement of regulations related to people's livelihood ▲Investment and job creation ▲Rationalization of safety regulations ▲Fostering new marine and fisheries industries ▲Carbon neutrality.


In the field of improving regulations related to people's livelihood, the roll call method for fishing in low-tide fishing grounds was changed from the existing face-to-face roll call to communication roll call for the first time in 52 years since 1972, enhancing the convenience of fishermen's operations.

Also, to secure maritime transportation rights for island residents without transportation means due to the absence of passenger ships and ferries, a regular route was established to Okgokdo Island in Tongyeong after reviewing laws and regulations with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and others, for the first time in 18 years.


Other cases of regulatory innovation include early construction of patrol vessels through private investment, preparation of a standard ordinance for rescue support systems that differ by region, enactment of a separate notification on equipment standards for electric-powered water leisure devices, and discovery of alternative fuel oil for fishermen.


Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, stated, "We will strive to improve complex regulations involving multiple ministries and laws and tangled interests to enhance public convenience and revitalize the economy."
