Mokpo Coast Guard Operates Minor Crime Case Review Committee

Opportunity for Reflection Through Fair Review... Preventing Reckless Production of Ex-convicts

Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Kwon Oh-seong) held a Minor Crime Case Review Committee meeting on the 25th in a small conference room, with three internal members of Mokpo Maritime Police and four external members including legal experts participating.

According to Mokpo Maritime Police on the 26th, the Minor Crime Case Review Committee is a system that comprehensively evaluates habituality, motive, age, and the minor nature of the damage among cases expected to be punished by fines, detention, or penalties of 200,000 won or less, to determine whether to reduce the punishment.

At the meeting, after fair and unbiased discussions by the seven review committee members, a total of 37 cases including violations of the Narcotics Control Act were reviewed, and all were decided to be reprimanded without formal charges.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “The Minor Crime Review Committee plays a role in preventing the indiscriminate creation of criminal records by giving the accused an opportunity for reflection through fair review rather than automatically filing criminal charges,” and added, “We will strive to establish maritime law and order through fair investigations and law enforcement that earns public trust.”
