Customized Campaign for Youth on the 38th World Drug Eradication Day
On the 26th, First Nationwide Event Targeting Ulsan vs Daegu Pro Soccer Fans
On the 26th at 7:30 PM, Ulsan City will hold an anti-drug promotion event at Munsu Football Stadium, where the professional football match between Ulsan and Daegu will take place.
This event is organized to mark the 38th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and prevent illegal distribution and use, thereby making Ulsan a safer city from drugs.
According to recent statistics from the National Police Agency, more than half of drug offenders are young people in their 20s and 30s, and the age at which people are exposed to drugs is gradually decreasing.
Based on data from the National Police Agency (as of November 2023), out of 17,152 drug offenders in 2023, 5,468 (32%) were in their 20s and 3,380 (20%) were in their 30s.
In response, Ulsan City, noting that many young people gather at professional football games?the region's most popular sport?will be the first in the nation to carry out an anti-drug campaign targeting professional football spectators, in collaboration with the Ulsan HD Football Club.
On the day of the event, about ten people will attend, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Dukyum, Ulsan HD Football Club CEO Kim Kwangkuk, as well as representatives from the city council, the board of education, the prosecution office, the police agency, the maritime police station, Mothers Hospital, and the Anti-Drug Campaign Headquarters.
Inside the stadium, a memorandum of understanding will be signed to express the shared commitment to making Ulsan a "drug-free city," and the players will be encouraged.
Outside the stadium, working teams from six organizations that signed a joint memorandum of understanding on April 28 last year to achieve a "drug-free city Ulsan" will gather to hold various events, such as a drug prevention quiz, commemorative photos with the football club mascot, and distribution of promotional souvenirs. The six organizations are the Ulsan Board of Education, Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office, Ulsan Police Agency, Ulsan Maritime Police Station, Godam Medical Foundation, and the Ulsan Pharmaceutical Association.
Mayor Kim Dukyum said, "Just as a sound mind resides in a strong body, sports are the best remedy to overcome drugs," and added, "Taking this event as an opportunity, we will mobilize all local resources to make Ulsan a drug-free city by collaborating with other professional sports teams such as basketball and baseball."
Ulsan City, together with the Ulsan Anti-Drug Campaign Headquarters (headed by Lee Jaekyung), which was launched in December last year, and the Board of Education, is conducting drug prevention education for elementary, middle, and high school students. So far, 8,200 students from 80 schools have participated, and the plan is to exceed 10,000 students by the end of the year.
