Yongin City Conducts Emergency Inspection of Battery Manufacturing Plant

Status Check of Fire Hazardous Materials Management and Fire Safety Facilities

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it conducted an emergency inspection of nine battery manufacturing plants in the region following a large-scale loss of life and property caused by a fire at a battery factory in Hwaseong City on the 24th.

There are no companies in Yongin that produce lithium-ion batteries using chemical materials such as cathode materials or electrolytes. However, there are companies that use these materials to manufacture battery modules or energy storage devices, and the city aims to proactively prevent similar accidents from occurring.

The inspection, jointly conducted by the city and labor safety guardians qualified as safety managers, checked the safety management status of fire hazardous materials during the manufacturing process and the installation status of fire safety facilities. Additionally, workplace safety rules were inspected for the safety of workers, with focused guidance on preventing the four major types of industrial accidents: falls, entrapment, collisions, and fire/explosion.

Sites with negligent safety management were instructed to take immediate action, and places requiring safety consulting were guided on how to manage safety independently. The city urged related organizations to maintain an organic emergency communication system to prepare for unexpected disasters.

A city official stated, "The emergency inspection results confirmed that the overall safety management status of battery-related manufacturing plants in the region is generally good," adding, "We will continue to verify compliance with safety standards at battery factories and strive to prevent safety accidents."
