LG Electronics Establishes 'On-Device AI' Division to Control Artificial Intelligence Business

LG Electronics has established an 'On-Device AI Control Tower' under the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) division.

According to industry sources on the 25th, LG Electronics combined AI-related personnel from existing product units and research personnel under the CTO to create a new 'On-Device AI Commercialization Task Force.'

This move aims to proactively lead discussions on related technologies and research and development as on-device AI integration discussions become more active across the industry.

The newly established organization is led by Senior Research Fellow (Executive Vice President) Kim Young-jun, who was recruited last month. Kim EVP is known to have been in charge of the Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AIX) organization while working at SK Telecom until the end of last year.

LG Electronics has continuously introduced on-device AI products equipped with AI chips in home appliances, laptops, and TVs. Cloud-based AI service research and development at the company-wide level has been managed under the CTO, while on-device AI for each product unit has been handled under each business division.

The newly established organization is expected to serve as a control tower to integrate and manage these efforts. It will also undertake tasks such as planning new services and expanding the application of on-device AI products.
