Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Oh Seung-hoon) announced on the 25th that it will conduct a special safety inspection for about two weeks until July 8th on 20 factory facilities handling battery-related products in the province.
This inspection was initiated to prevent recurrence of similar cases in the province and to raise fire awareness following the factory fire in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province the previous day, which resulted in 31 casualties (23 deaths, 8 injuries).
The main points include ▲ maintenance and management of important fire and fire prevention facilities ▲ initial response by self-fire brigades ▲ compliance with hazardous materials storage, handling, and safety management regulations ▲ securing at least two emergency escape routes inside the factory.
Additionally, safety evacuation training for workers including foreigners and safety consulting led by workplace stakeholders on inspection guidelines will be conducted simultaneously.
Prior to this, Jeonnam Fire Headquarters sent a fire prevention advisory letter and conducted telephone inspections with related business operators in the province on the 24th through an urgent directive from the chief.
Chief Oh Seung-hoon stated, “Through this investigation, we will strive to prevent similar fires in the province by properly storing and subdividing products and stocking fire extinguishing agents suitable for metal fire suppression.”
