Fire at Dongdaemun-gu Apartment Construction Site... Over 30 Rescued and Evacuated (Comprehensive)

At an apartment construction site in Imun-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, a fire broke out around 2:28 PM on the 5th, leading to the rescue and evacuation of about 30 workers, with 2 people being transported to the hospital.

According to the fire authorities, as of 3:56 PM, 20 workers were rescued from three apartment buildings, 11 were evacuated by firefighters, and 4 evacuated on their own.

So far, 6 people are reported to have inhaled smoke, among whom a man in his 40s and a man in his 20s were transported to a nearby hospital.

The fire department completed initial extinguishing around 3:33 PM, about an hour after the fire started. It was initially suspected that the fire started in a vehicle at the construction site, but the exact ignition point and cause are being investigated.

The apartment complex is scheduled for occupancy in January next year and is known to consist of approximately 3,000 households.
