Remember the Sacrifice of Veterans! Pohang Holds 74th Anniversary Event for the Korean War

Honoring the Noble Sacrifice of Patriotic Martyrs and Fallen Heroes Who Gave Their Lives for Freedom and Peace

Pohang City Strives to Promote Pride and Honor for National Meritorious Persons and Their Families

On the 25th, the city of Pohang held the '74th Anniversary of the Korean War' event at the Pohang Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater, co-hosted by the Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean War Veterans Association (Branch President Jeong Yeonheup) and the Pohang Branch of the Korean War Veterans Association (Branch President Lee Chunsul).

Remember the Sacrifice of Veterans! Pohang Holds 74th Anniversary Event for the Korean War On the 25th, at the Pohang City Culture and Arts Center Grand Performance Hall, a 74th anniversary event of the Korean War was held, where participants shouted three cheers to honor the veterans.

This event was organized to honor the sacrifice and dedication of Korean War veterans and to raise awareness of the importance of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. Over 1,000 people attended, including Pohang Deputy Mayor Jang Sangkil, Gyeongbuk Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs Kim Hakhong, Pohang City Council Vice Chairman Kim Ilman, Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Vice Chairman Park Yongseon, Korean War veterans, heads of veterans' organizations, heads of institutions and organizations, and families of veterans.


The commemorative ceremony began with a video about the Korean War and a pre-ceremony performance by the Idong Elementary School Choir. In particular, the heartfelt song performed by the Idong Elementary 'Baekgot Choir' in gratitude and respect for the veterans moved many attendees.


Additionally, the national flags of the countries that participated in the Korean War to support Korea, along with the Taegeukgi and UN flag, were brought in to honor the UN forces. The event concluded with the national ceremony, commendations for veterans, group singing of the Korean War song and military songs, and a three cheers for victory.


Deputy Mayor Jang Sangkil said, "We deeply appreciate the Korean War veterans who risked their lives to defend our country and freedom, and we honor the spirits of those who gave their lives for the nation. We will do our utmost to pass on our history to future generations and to enhance the pride and honor of national merit recipients and their families."


As part of the side events, the Pohang Veterans Association Women's Group and Youth Group held a Korean War remembrance rice ball making experience and a patriotic photo exhibition for citizens and students to enhance understanding of the Korean War and to remind them of the value of freedom and peace.


In addition, the Pohang North Korean Defectors' Association hosted a tasting event featuring North Korean cuisine (corn porridge) to introduce North Korean food culture.
