‘2025 International Slow City Federation Mayors' Assembly’ to be Held in Wando County Next June
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do attended the ‘2024 International Slow City Federation Mayors’ General Assembly’ held from the 21st to the 22nd and promoted the hosting of the 2025 Mayors’ General Assembly in Wando-gun as well as the marine healing industry.
According to the county on the 25th, the ‘2024 International Slow City Federation Mayors’ General Assembly’ is held for exchanges among international Slow City cities, and this year it was hosted in Citt? Sant'Angelo, Italy.

The assembly was attended by over 500 participants from 297 cities across 33 countries of the International Slow City Federation. Shin Woo-cheol, the mayor of Wando-gun, who attended the assembly in person, promoted Wando’s natural environment, marine healing industry, and local specialties as the Clean Sea Capital of South Korea through a presentation.
He also expressed hope to meet Slow City mayors in Wando during the ‘2025 International Slow City Federation Mayors’ General Assembly’ and personally delivered invitations to the Slow City mayors. The ‘2025 International Slow City Federation Mayors’ General Assembly’ will be held in Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do from June 19 to 22 next year.
At next year’s assembly, about 200 participants including mayors and Slow City network representatives from Europe, North America, and Asia will attend to discuss national network trends, new Slow City city certifications, sharing Slow City policies, and development plans.
A county official said, “We will continue to faithfully practice the spirit of Slow City and promote differentiated policies unique to Wando, including marine healing and the construction of a wellness tourism city, to make Wando-gun a representative Slow City of South Korea.”
Meanwhile, last June, Wando-gun received the highest award, the ‘Orange Snail Award,’ for its ‘marine healing’ policy at the International Slow City Best Practices Contest held in Italy.
