On the 27th at 6 p.m., at the Small Performance Hall of the Mokpo Citizens' Culture and Sports Center, the concert titled 'A Piano Story on a Midsummer Night' will feature performances and explanations of pieces such as Bach's Goldberg Variations Aria and Chopin's Nocturne No. 8.
Any Mokpo citizen can attend free of charge, but for a more comfortable viewing experience, advance reservations are also available. Reservations can be made through the reservation form on the National Mokpo University website, and on the day of the concert, starting from 5 p.m., reserved seats will be exchanged for designated tickets. Even if you did not make a reservation, you can enter on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue on the day of the performance.
The humanities concert, where the intellect of the era meets the humanities, will be held six times this year. The first concert, held on the 23rd of last month with invited writer Yoo Si-min, was sold out in advance, receiving great interest and support from the audience.
This humanities concert is also expected to unfold a feast of humanities, with poet Hwang Ji-woo leading the dialogue and discussion alongside the invited pianist's performance.
On the 27th, marking the beginning of summer, invited guest Kim Kyu-yeon and poet Hwang Ji-woo will present Bach and Chopin's music through high-level piano performances and profound commentary.
Invited guest pianist Professor Kim Kyu-yeon of Seoul National University has won awards at the Dublin International Competition, Queen Elizabeth International Competition, Cleveland International Competition, and won first place at the Gina Bachauer Young Artist International Competition. He has collaborated with domestic and international orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Belgian National Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and KBS Symphony Orchestra. His awards include the Nanpa Music Award, Shinhan Music Award, Unpa Award, and Korean Music Association New Artist Award.
Poet Hwang Ji-woo, who leads the overall humanities concert dialogue, served as president of the Korea National University of Arts. His major works include 'Even Birds Leave the World,' 'I Am You,' and 'Antiphon for the Outside.'
Following this, various humanities topics will be presented to the audience. On the 25th of next month, historian Jeon Woo-yong (former professor at Hanyang University), on September 26th, novelist Hwang Seok-young, on October 17th, life scientist Choi Jae-chun (Ph.D. from Harvard University), and on November 21st, actor Moon Sung-geun will participate as distinguished guests.
The humanities concert is co-hosted by National Mokpo University, a cultural and arts-centered university, Mokpo City, and the Mokpo Cultural City Center, designed to allow university members and Mokpo citizens to enjoy culture. It is held in conjunction with the 'Cultural Gaetmul School,' part of the Mokpo Cultural City Development Project.
Declared a cultural and arts-centered university last year, National Mokpo University is growing alongside the region with over 70 cultural and arts programs annually. The university plans to continuously develop various programs that allow the university and the region to communicate and enjoy culture and arts, fulfilling its social responsibilities.
