Introducing Business Automation (RPA), Employees Engaged in High Value-Added Tasks

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 25th that it will introduce Robotic Process Automation (RPA), an AI program that automatically handles simple and repetitive administrative tasks.

The city plans to first apply RPA to high-satisfaction, simple, and repetitive manual tasks that are common across all departments, such as meal allowances, overtime pay, travel expenses payments, and education and training performance registration, to verify work efficiency.

The “meal allowances, overtime pay, and travel expenses payments” task automates the manual work that took more than two hours each month in every department, reducing work hours and preventing errors caused by manual calculations.

For “education and training performance registration,” although employees previously registered their own participation records, software robots will now handle this process, eliminating the hassle of individual registrations and preventing omissions.

This is expected to save approximately 7,400 hours annually, creating an environment where the city can focus on improving the quality of civil services. It is anticipated to reduce employee fatigue and enhance work efficiency.

The city plans to launch the service in August and will continue to expand RPA to various administrative tasks by identifying more than three tasks annually through performance analysis and demand surveys across all departments.

A city official stated, “In this rapidly changing digital transformation era, changes are required in administration as well,” adding, “We hope to provide improved services to citizens by focusing our capabilities on high value-added core tasks with the time saved through work automation.”
