Busan Chicken Restaurant's Whole Chicken Infested with Maggots
"Fried Rotten Chicken Right Away... Smell Overwhelming"
Netizens Outraged "They Should Change the Frying Oil Too"
Outrage has erupted after a story surfaced about maggots pouring out in large quantities from a whole chicken purchased at a local chicken restaurant located in Busan.
On the 23rd, a post titled "An incident worthy of a broadcast program. Please do not watch if you are eating" was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, shared several photos, saying, "Please do not look if you have a weak stomach or are currently eating, as it may be disturbing."
In the photos posted by Mr. A, maggots can be seen clinging to the golden-fried whole chicken drumstick. It appears as if they were fried together with the chicken, showing a white, raised appearance. Mr. A explained the situation, saying, "My friend couldn’t sleep early in the morning and bought a whole chicken from a 24-hour snack bar nearby and brought it home. The moment he tore off the drumstick to eat, something white fell off, and a strong rotten smell filled the air."
Mr. A added, "After closely examining the chicken, my friend said it seemed like the chicken was already rotten with maggots but was fried whole anyway. I don’t know how this could happen in this day and age. It’s so shocking that I’m unsure where to report this," asking for opinions.
Netizens who came across the story responded with comments such as, "If reported, the business will probably be shut down immediately," "There’s no need to listen to the owner’s side. At that level, they should close the business," "Looks like your friend won’t be able to eat chicken anymore," "This is unprecedented," "Did they store the chicken at room temperature?" "The oil used to fry that chicken should be completely discarded," and "This is horrifying."
A netizen B, who runs a chicken restaurant, advised, "It seems like they displayed partially cooked chicken and sold the unsold ones after a few days. The owner seems to have no concept of hygiene at all. If they can’t even smell rotten food during cooking or packaging, they shouldn’t be in the food business. You must get compensation."
■ What to do if foreign substances are found in cooked food from a restaurant?
- Record specific cases such as "When opening the delivery container lid, foreign substances were floating on top."
2. Keep the foreign substances as evidence in a zipper bag or separate container.
- Even if you have photos or memories as proof, without the actual foreign substance, it is difficult to conduct an accurate investigation.
3. Report to 1399 (Food Safety Information Center Call Center) without an area code.
- When reporting, provide the restaurant name and address, the ordered food, and the situation in which the foreign substance was found.
- Submitting receipts or payment records helps expedite verification.
- If ordered through a delivery app, you can also report to the company’s customer service.
4. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety conducts fact verification and cause investigation, then imposes administrative sanctions on the restaurant depending on the degree and frequency of negligence.
- If parasites or metal/glass are mixed in, business suspension for 2?7 days; if blades or animal carcasses are found, business suspension for 5?20 days; other foreign substances result in corrective orders to business suspension for 3 days.
