Shared Kitchen 'Ogeori Bukeok' Becomes a Hot Place for Youth in Yongin

Youth Networking Party 'Matitneun Bam' Held
As Part of Singal Ogori Urban Regeneration Project

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is seeing the shared kitchen 'Ogori Bukeok,' established as part of the urban regeneration project around Singal Five-way Intersection in Giheung-gu, emerge as a popular spot among local youth.

On the 20th, in the basement of the Singal-dong Community Center, young people from Yongin gathered in small groups at 'Ogori Bukeok' in the evening. The gathering was for the tasting event of the local Makgeolli 'Yongin Takju,' set to be launched by the end of this year, and the networking party 'Matitneun Bam' organized to revitalize the shared kitchen.

The event participants were young people aged 19 to 39 from the Yongin area who are usually active on social networking services (SNS) or interested in urban regeneration projects.

Yongin Takju is a type of 'Iyangju' developed together with local residents using Yongin Baekok rice at the 'Makgeolli School' held by Ato Brewery at Ogori Bukeok. Iyangju refers to Makgeolli that has been fermented once and then fermented again, making it a twice-brewed Makgeolli. The city and Ato Brewery aim to launch Yongin Takju by the end of this year.

Following guidance from Ato Brewery officials, participants prepared dishes such as pasta and tteokbokki to pair with Makgeolli and tasted Yongin Takju to evaluate its flavor. An Ato Brewery representative explained, "Yongin Takju is characterized by a refreshing and pleasant acidity that suits Yongin."

The participants of the event will act as promotional supporters for Yongin Takju going forward. One attendee said, "Although it is a shared kitchen, the clean walls make it suitable as an exhibition space as well," adding, "It would be great to plan events where local artists can gather to enjoy simple cooking and exhibitions."

Meanwhile, the city plans to hold another 'Matitneun Bam' party on the 4th of next month. Those interested in participating can apply by the 26th. For more details about the event, please check the 'Singal Ogori Urban Regeneration' blog.

A city official stated, "'Ogori Bukeok' will be utilized in various ways, and we will strive to make it a shared kitchen for even more people."
