Chungnam Regional Environmental Health Center at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital will conduct a health impact survey targeting residents in environmentally vulnerable areas of Nonsan-si and Hongseong-gun, Chungnam Province.

The survey, which will be conducted over three days starting from the 26th, targets about 90 residents near the Gayagok-myeon Agricultural and Industrial Complex in Nonsan-si and about 150 residents near the Galsan-myeon Industrial Complex in Hongseong-gun.

The health impact survey includes a questionnaire (residential history, disease history, exposure to organic solvents and perception of odors, mental health, etc.), general health checkups (blood and urine tests, physical measurements, chest X-rays, pulmonary function tests), and special health checkups (analysis of heavy metals and environmental hormones).

Through the survey, the center will assess the level of exposure to environmental hazardous substances, focusing on heavy metals and environmental hormones, and analyze their impact on the health of local residents. Environmental health education for the prevention and management of environmentally related diseases will also be provided.

Center Director Lee Yong-jin stated, “There have been continuous complaints from residents about environmental hazardous substances that may arise from agricultural and industrial complexes,” and added, “We will do our best to alleviate concerns, identify causes, and establish measures for preventing and managing health damage.”
